Tapping young minds for innovation in risk mitigation

All India Marine Pilot Association (AIMPA) will be soon organising a largest single subject research paper competition in India called SAMIPTA (Safe and Modern ideas for pilot transfer arrangement) for which cadets from 37 different maritime Institutes are participating.

A mass briefing about SAMIPTA competition was held on 22nd May through a webinar by its core committee.

Gracing the event were Dr Malini Shankar (IAS (retd), VC, IMU and Dr Shivakholundu, Head Academics IMU HQ who has helped realize the dream of SAMIPTA with their co-operation and  foresightedness and guidance; Capt Anil Kumar Sharma; Capt Ajay Yadav, Sr faculty MANET, Pune; Capt Sundeep Shivangi, Faculty Anglo Eastern; and Capt Ashok Advani, Editor, Sagar Sandesh.

Capt Gajanan Karanjikar, President, AIMPA gave a special briefing for all the registered participants.

The webinar focused on pilot ladder – Risk mitigation through innovation. “Risk mitigation is a science. Being a part of Pilot ladder-Risk mitigation innovation is a great participation because it saves human life,” said Capt Karanjikar.

He continued, “Pilot ladder is the only thing in shipping which has not changed till now.  We are losing 2 to 3 pilots every year. Every operation in shipping has an element of risk a sound mind should be able to understand risk.”

He explained in brief about how one has to approach regarding research, objectives of writing, research paper writing process, and basic elements of writing to name a few. The motive is to create impression of innovating something for practical application that will last with them.

He advised the students to not to get discouraged and lose hope. You need not have domain knowledge if you can think out of the box. Sky is the limit for thinking and research. Flare your young minds and get ideas.
